West Texas Winds

Howdy friends!

I recently did a tarot reading to inquire the intention of these particularly rough West Texas winds we’ve been experiencing over the past few months. Though the cotton blowing in my back door seems to have softened the landscape, what I found in the reading was particularly interesting: The winds were sweeping in to bring balance.

Often what we perceive to be difficult times or destructive tides end up clearing away where there was excess. In the Major Arcana of the Rider-Waite Smith deck, the Tower card can also represent this: revealing where there are weak spots in our lives.

I wonder how, like William Blake, I can “justify the ways of God to man,” so what I did was write a poem. Enjoy!

West Texas Winds

The winds of West Texas
are balancing the scales,
meanwhile making the locals angry.
Wanting to garden
while the tide rushes on,
remembering this land was once the ocean.
So I asked the wind
while the sun pushed me forward
any way I may wield
the sword of justice
with my paper and pen
in the land of underworld prophecy:
BEWARE THE SEMI-ARID REGION,
drying the skin
with no one here to do botox.
How absurd it is to garden in the desert,
yet man insists he must
dominate nature,
hence the winds
making their statements
quieting while I inquire
the fate of nations
or self-centered inclinations.
Who can know with certainty
how exactly the web is spun
or the True Name of the goddess
who spins it?
(If there were such a name)
Yet I, in my grandiose visions,
wish to declare to the whole world
my wealth of information
resulting in over 17 million finds
yet never leaving the first page of Google.
Who said it was my job to convince anybody
or to overly control with religious dogma?
Yet the dogs with all their wisdom
remind me to soak up the sun.
